Question: For my 55 gal bare bottom grow out tanks I am thinking of adding 2 or 3 small potted plants to my tank to give my fish the comfort of "security". I want to know what plants tolerate temps 84F - 88F with minimal light and would not need me to add any additives (like liquid plant food) to the tank water? I basically want a plant that will get all it needs from the small pot it is already in and from the elements already in my bare bottom tank, ie. SAFE treated tap water, small pieces of fish food I miss when cleaning and fish waste.

err that is why Walter listed them in posts #5 through 11, Amazon sword is a generic name, anything starting echinodorous is basically one or other form of Amazon sword.

Lighting plz, what lighting are you using on these nice plants. I just got a new T5 light and my Discus are hiding but I assume they will come out eventually. Can I possibly be successful with a planted tank with no CO2 unit? Please let me know about your lights and how long per day do you keep them on etc. Thanks very much, Julia

Usually when you layer its dirt on bottom and then a sad/gravel cap. Miracle grow brand dirt is really popular or if your interested in fert tabs people make them themselves. I sell the osmocote caps for

They are just poked down into your substrate and are time released fertilizer for the plants. You can also do these yourself by buying osmocote from any hardware store and then buying the capsules from some whole/health food stores or ebay and then spending a few hours filling the caps ( the painful part lol) Easy to do, just a little time consuming.
