I have a Rena 200 at 20" depth and it runs well and is very quiet. I also like the Whisper (less expensive) but I'd check the depth rating for the 40...perhaps bump it up to Model 60?
Just set up a sponge filter as a back up to my Eheim 2217. Love the filter, but this Elite 808 pump has GOT to go. It HUMMMMS so loud in the cabinet below the tank. Its in the living room so quiet is paramount. You guys are one knowledgeable group here.
Its a 90 gal tank. Thinking Tetra Whisper by reading posts on here.
Will a whisper 40 be enough? I don't need 2 outlets on the pump, just enough to drive an airstone. Thanks in advance for any help.

"Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean someone is not out to get you"
I ran down to the Pets Mart near work lunchtime, snagged a Whisper 40. The box says its rated for a deep tank. I just need it to power the airstone in the sponge. Can't wait to try it when I get home later. ANYTHING has to be better then Elite pump in there now. Man, that thing is LOUD.
Whisper 40 works GREAT!! Plenty of bubbles. And QUIET Thanks for info all.
