    Default Cardinals and Rummynose ~

Does anyone know if you can keep these to fish together? Only. I love Rummynose and I might just keep a Rummynose tank!

    That would be boring?

You can keep them together. I have two community tanks with some of each in.

I don't think it would be boring, they are very active fishes.

What size tank are you thinking? Since they are schoolers and active, they like room.

the 24" or 30" version? I'm sure you could do a small school of them in a 20 though. Or if you wanted both, a mixed school. Mine tend to just all school together in my tanks.

They'd look great in a nice planted tank!

I was just searching some info, Karen ~ I was thinking of Cherry Barbs too ~ what do you think?

I do look great in a planted tank ~ but I can not have planted tanks...everything always dies and plants are expensive, woman!

I really don't want to get the RM from a lfs here....I wonder if people actually ship them? lol!

I've never kept cherry barbs so I don't know much about them. I think they graze on algae some though... which would be kind of handy.

Oh do you now? And what size tank is it you require? I bet you could get yourself a nice little piece of driftwood and tie some java fern and/or anubias to it and be good to go. Plant cuttings are generally a steal on planted tank forums. And usually the healthiest too.

I'm sure someone does. I know Live Aquaria has them and I've heard good things about their stock.

I think cherry barbs are fin nippers? But yep, the rummynose are a great schooling fish, I love their checkered tail fin.

I have no clue....I googled them and seems lots of people keep them with the RN...

I do to, Barb! Not too many talk about their checkered tail, only the nose! I love that tail! If they didnt have that tail I would not get them....

Even if they are fin nippers, being in with rummynoses probably won't matter. They're all fast swimmers. They tend to target the slower, long finned fish like angels and bettas.

Never seen cherry barbs exhibit any aggression. A much different fish than a tiger Barb.
Just something sad but interesting; wild cherry barbs are extinct on Sri Lanka and are being reintroduced using captive bred fish.

Just not a combo that I would go for since Barbs generally prefer mid 70's and aren't SA.
If they are meant as discus tank mates I would not subject them to the higher temps.

So you would or would not put them with Rummynose?

I have to admit I have a bias towards keeping fish only with others from the same region so I personally wouldn't mix cherry barbs with rummy nose but I would be dishonest if I said they would not do well together. They each come from not such dissimilar waters albeit, if not from opposite sides of the planet.
I wouldn't try keeping cherry barbs with discus on the basis of higher temperatures above those preferred by the cherry barbs.

Cherry barbs are beautiful and fun to watch! I have 8 of them with my angel community and they are a hoot. They chase each other in literal circles. I have about an equal number of males and females and they don't seem to fight at all. They leave the other fish alone, keep to themselves although they do seem to have formed a somewhat loose school with the lemon tetras. Very colorful tank.

Oh and they also do seem to like to eat some algae (thread algae) and they pick food from the bottom as well as catching it at mid water level.
