    Default advice on Qting/cleaning tank

    Hey all,
3 of my 8 discus are darkened, hanging in a corner, their fins are a bit jagged and opaque....I've read this is indicative of a protozoan bacteria. I'm going to put them in a QT tank and medicate with Bifuran. I've read conflicting accounts; should the temp be higher or lower in the QT? Also, how can I make sure to 'clear out' the tank of protozoan bacteria w/o medicating (and by medicating I mean without screwing up the ammonia cycle bacteria)?

Thanks for all the help and any advice.

Hi 1st off you either have protoza parasites like ick, oodinium, costis Hex, etc or you have bacteria...not the same thing and different meds/chems will be required.

What you're discribing could be either....try the furan it work on bacteria

    Thanks for the clarification Graham.

Well from what I've read I think I've got protozoan....the frayed, opaque fins being the one identifying mark I can point out (the rest being the stress marks, darkening, etc.).

I'll see if the furan works.
