Default Methylene Blue or Malachite Green for eggs?

When eggs are layed, some of you use Methylene Blue; while others use Malachite Green or other fungus treatments.

Which one do you recommend and why?

Also, what dosage do you use? Do you use the recommended dosage as if you were treating a fish?

Good question and one I'd love to hear answers for, too: the pair in my breeding tank constantly get fungused eggs, so I just tried Fungus Cure this morning-- immeidately after unplugging the heater on which they had chosen to lay the eggs and putting in a spare heater.
We'll see how it works. I have both MG and MB. If this doesn't work, next roll around, I'd love to know the answer to this, too!
(They have a PERFECTLY good slab of slate they've used like four times. But it's better than the sponge filter, which they were eyeing last night!)

Believe it or not Hydrogen Peroxide is the best for eggs.

    1. It doesn't turn the water any color.

    2. It is great as an anti fungal.

    3. It dissapates out of the water in 12 hours. Just put another treatment in every 12 hours until eggs hatch.

All the other ones work well too and I have used them but I still prefer Hydrogen Peroxide.

I use formalin at one drop p/gal for eggs. As with the HP, formalin leaves the water clear so you can see what's going on with the eggs. Dose once, around an hour after the eggs are layed and that's it.

I can't offer a dose but 3% hydrogen peroxide is available at any drugstore or even a cornerstore...

How big is the large mouth glass jar? A gallon? 5 gallons?

If I put Hydrogen Peroxide in a 25 gallon tank with the eggs and parents, care to guess how many drops I should put in?

Hydrogen Peroxide won't harm the parents? I'm really interested in this treatment since it would be far less expensive than using any of the medicinal ones and maybe the bacteria culture in the sponge filter won't be harmed.

    Thanks,
    Curt

Be carefull adding HP to the tank. It's very hard on the biofilter. I believe Scott is using it on eggs that have been removed from the tank so he can add more than would be safe in a tank.
Go with the formalin or even Quick Cure in the tank at 1 drop p/gal for either one.

3% HP most definetly wont harm the parents. I know it is used for an anti-fungal on eggs but I have never used it on eggs so I couldnt tell you the dosage. I do know that when using 35% HP I use 2 drops per gallon to treat for external parasites...so when using 3% HP for treating eggs it is probably a little more if not similar in dosage.

I have raised thousands of angels using meth blue. I put the eggs in a separate small tank (2 or 5 gallons). Put an airstone next to them with a moderate stream of bubbles and then add enough meth blue so the tank is inky with it. Then every day, I remove about 10% of the water from the tank and replace it with untreated water. This gradually lightens the color and decreases the concentration of the meth blue. It works like a charm. Don't panic about the inky water. It does no harm. Just the opposite. I believe that meth blue also helps carry oxygen to the eggs but am not sure. It does not matter because the method works great.
