    Default filter cartridge

    i'm setting up a 55 and i was going to use a emperor 400 & a penguin 350 that i'm not using on my other tanks. and i was woundering if i should use the cartidges that are made for it or.. should i be using something else in them

    I have 2 Emperor 400's and I don't use filters at all, I just let the biowheels do the job for me.

    You can make your own filters by cutting larger squares of filter foam or rigid polyester fiber to the size of the factory made units. They can be reused for quite a while. Some people just rubber band filter floss around the factory frames with the old material cut off. It's really too bad these manufacturers miss out on sales because they can't reasonably price these things.
