The screen we use for our cones is like a soft metal of some sort. You might trying pulling one of the fish out of the tank once they finish spawning and see if the eggs get eaten.
I have a gorgeous pair of cobalt type discus. They get along great, are VERY calm, in a 29 breeder BB set-up with a Hydro V sponge filter,, Eat great. They have laid eggs 8 times since June 23 !! Hardly ANY eggs turn white now. The problem is they eat the eggs right before the eggs hatch. They care for the eggs at least 2 days and nights. The eggs stay amber, get swollen like they are ready to hatch and that's it.. they eat them. I am trying to observe if one fish or the other eats them. They lay the eggs on the glass because I am short a breeding cone or piece of slate. Maybe I could use a piece of mesh ?? What do you all use for mesh??

you can use a clay brick, only cost 35 cent. (home depot)
identify if the male or female that are eating the eggs and take that one out. i have the same problem and for me it was the female.
best of luck!

I use a 8" piece of plastic gutter screen (available at most hardware stores) with suction cups on both ends. After they spawn and are tending the spawn for a day I cover with the screen. Usually works for me.
Thanks all for your help, good suggestions.. David T
I had the same problem tonight...They laid eggs, tended them for a few hours...and then slowly ate them..I think it was the female also...But the question is..if they egss hatch, do u put the female fish back in???
