    Default Filter Cartridges

    hi,

I just have a regular power filter (it came with my tank when i purchased it - whisper 70 or something) i have two sponges on the intake tube right now and i keep buying the cartridges.

my question is, do i need to keep buying the cartridges for it if i have the sponges on the intake? it catches majority of the dirt. or could i put something instead of the cartridges. just like a media or something. i'd rather leave it empty.

    thanks and appreciate any insight.

I'm not sure what type of cartridge the 70 has but most people clean there filters ( in removed tank water when doing a water change) several times before replacing. Don T.

Just my opinion but for a discus tank all you really need is some coarse sponge inside the filter for your bio. You already took care of the mechanical part of the filtration by using pre-filter. Just make sure you clean them regularly so they don't clog.

This is why so many uses the Aquaclear filter.

Depends on what you currly have in there. More doesn't necessary mean better. You don't want to stuff the filter with too much sponge/foam.

well like i said in my first post. i buy the cartridges, which is just a foam/floss type material. i've been asking if i need to put anything on the inside at all? the cartridges i've been using just get a slight yellow right now. nothing really gets past the sponges..

I have been through barrie a few times.I am about 25 mins from Lewiston Queenston Bridge. As far as the Scrubbies they could go a long time w/o rinsing them. And if you did use tank water.
