I am definitely retiring in China....
The Discus market is big here. Most of the aquarium stores here are pretty knowledgeable about Discus. I could go to a random store and talk with the owner about water parameters and disease treatments for Discus.
What's even better is the low price tag! A pair of 6"+ Red Cover young adults only costs 300 RMB (about $45) if bought from LFS. I know I can never find such deals in America. 1 lb. of disinfected live Blackworm costs only about $1.
So yeah, it's a good idea retiring in China!

    Hi Hector,
Hope you're well! So glad to see that you're still around! Still remember our shipment from Gold Mountain? What happened to that importer? I think he's no longer listed in the sponsor page...

    Best,

You definitely should if you still like discus when you are retiring.

I'm from China too. Dalian is a big city in China, and other than Dalian, there are also a few paradises for discus hobbyists in China that you should pay a visit to, like Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Anshan, and Xi'an. I'm sure you will be amazed by the quantity of discus suppliers and retailers there, as well as the quality of discus they sell! Also the price is way much better than what we pay in the U.S.

So sorry to hear what has happened with Frank...
So, you're quitting Discus for now... But I'm sure you'll be back some time soon, just like me. Good luck with everything!

Walter , I just saw the ICE CITY in China , they had a presentation in NBC Today's Show. WOW....amazing , breathtaking ! 32.000.000 gallons of water , LED lighting at night , snow and ice structures , an amazing creation .
In America it would never happen ...it would be analyzed as a non- profitable task

China is a awsome, awe-inspiring and complex country to say the least. My grandparents were originally from Shanghai and Beijing, and I have been to the big city-tourist sites too. But I really like Suzhou and Hangzhou....nice cities with lakes and garden, and close enough to Shanghai. I hope there are lots of discus shops there too!

I've seen lots of photos too - it happens each year in Harbin, so one of these days, I'll head over there in the wintertime. It's on my list of places in China that I want to visit.

I found a video showing the contrast in the day and night of the Ice Festival and the snow sculptures:

A Day and Night at the Harbin Ice Festival

(there are plenty more on youtube.com; just search on "ice" and "harbin")
