can someone please identify for me?

i wasn't really sure where i could post this so i decided to do it here. if it doesn't belong here please move it (administrator). this discus was sold to me as a millennium red. i know that's not the real strain name due to the fact that all the discus she sold to me had names i have never heard of here on SD and one of them i'm sure is a snakeskin which she called a tortoiseshell. please help identify as i have no idea what it is. i have two of them but one of them hasn't been coloring up as much as this one. she showed me a pic of the parents and they were both really red with peppering on the fins. thanks a bunch to those that can help

I wish I could help you but I can't. I have one that is similar and I don't even really know EXACTLY what it is. It was sold to me as a "Golden." The older it gets, the more orange that starts to appear on it. You can sometimes see a hint of blue in the fins as well. Here is a pic...

lol, don't you hate when you can't identify one? that discus looks gorgeous though. i think mine might be a little small for it's age but we shall see. yours looks like it's doing great, mine do not have red eyes at all. does yours have peppering? black around the fins? people have told me it might be a marlboro but i highly doubt it.

yeah the pictures towards the bottom of the thread look almost identical. but he doesn't name this strain does he? i might have missed it. they look great and his have the black around the fins as well

I'm thinking a Red Melon or Gold Melon but that's just a guess. They look very nice, both of your fish. I would purchase them also.

Eddie, if my Discus survive my dilemma right now, I'm hoping my Golden and Red Melon pair together. My fingers are crossed!

Here is a pic of the Melon I have...It's not the greatest pic but probably the best one I have of it.

As you can see, there is almost no Black on this one or peppering

There is an "outbreak" in my tank right now and not sure what's wrong. The two above are doing well but I lost a Discus yesterday and have one on it's side right now. This is all for another thread and I don't want to hijack yours though.

so sorry to hear that. i dealt with illness early on when i got my discus and i lost 3 due to it. 2 of the ones i still have might have been affected by the illness because they haven't grown much. hope they get better. sorry for your loss

not so much, they are my bullies for sure. and they are 3-3.5" so they are not that tiny. regardless though, the tank is a little too big for them but i'm using the 55 for QT
