I love the silica sand! If you go to a pool supply store, you can buy some silica pool filter sand pretty cheap as well. I found mine there at $9.99 for a 50 lb. bag. Some of it does get sucked up when I siphon though... no biggie... I just add some more (after rinsing of course)... and at that price it doesn't really matter, I have lots left over.

I don't know what everyone else uses, but I used to have an actual siphon (bought from Petsmart) that had the large head on it. I ended up cutting that head off because it didn't have the suction that I wanted and now just use the hose to siphon. I hold the hose about 1'' above the sand and it sucks all of the poop wonderfully. You could just buy a clear hose from your LFS at around $1 a foot and use that... it's much less expensive than buying those 'manufactured' siphons. HTH... if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Oh... I'll try to get some pics up today..

Renee, its going to look gorgeous! Glad to see you decided on the Hydor Inlines, so much nicer than looking at heaters in the tank and very reliable, too. Can't wait to see pics with it filled, decorated and with Discus in it!

Here we go Connie... this is only one shot, but more to come soon!

Next shots I'm going to try with natural lighting instead. They are eating anything right now that I throw at them! Little oinkies already! lol... BTW, these guys are from Dan (Gulf Coast)... he's a pleasure to speak with on the phone.

Im excited to see your pics. I really like the hydor idea. Also does your background apply like window tinting? Im thinking about changing my background but was having a hard time deciding. You may have just decided for me. Everybody should make threads like this one of their tanks so we can see all of the unique ideas out there.

    Thanks,
    Pat

Here are a couple more shots I managed to get:

That golden male is one of my favorites... he's a big boy & he's so clean! Looks like one of his dorsal spines was damaged during shipping... hopefully it will heal or go back to normal? Nonetheless he's beautiful. The female has peppering on her anal and tail fin... but has a beautiful yellow color to her... they are both beautiful!

    Renee, They are beautiful!
Don't worry too much about the peppering it might go when she is used to you light tank!
Thanks for the tip on the silica sand and the siphon, I have one of those things and it is slow and you have to hold it over the poop for ages to get the suction to get it up so I will go the way you have as well.
More pics as they settle and colour up and begin showing their personalities thats always sooooooo interesting.
    Good Luck Kath

Connie-- sent you a PM, but for anyone else that was wondering:

    Here's the link:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Aquarium-Inflow-...#ht_1860wt_909

It's $44-- but that's incredibly cheap considering if you look at:

    http://www.adgshop.com/Lily_Pipe_p/102-4161.htm --Just the outflow $110

    and....
    http://www.adgshop.com/Lily_Pipe_Inf...p/102-4072.htm --the inflow for $135!!

So you can get the set on ebay for $44-- BIG Savings... not sure if they are the same brand, but the glass quality is awesome!

    HTH....

I too am collecting stuff for a 120G, but mine is going to be planted. I thought about sandblasting the background for an opaque appearance, but your idea of opaque window film is a lot better idea, and the glass lily pipes for your filter is a GREAT idea, now I can throw away the slimy green ones that come from Eheim! Can't wait to see this set up, I love Alenquers and any discus that's yellow! Very nice job!.....
