    Default Algae Screen

Has any one tried an algae screen? Especially on a central system to reduce water changes.

I've seen them used on reef tanks to reduce nitrates. It works the same for fresh water, but most people just use plants. Same effect. I have seen entire filters with nothing but plants (like a giant planter) and the tank water is pumped through it. The plants consume the nitrate, phosphate and other organics in the water column as food. I's amazing how clean the water stays.
