Default WNY / Buffalo Area Discus

    Hello,

Just to see if there is any interest.... I have some fry from a pair that are about 3 weeks free swimming now, not ready to go yet but will be soon. The one in the picture is the only one I could get in focus but there are 60 or 70 of them.

You'll have to be local because I can't ship them.

About The Parents: Male is an Irridescent Red Turquoise (resulted from crossing a Red Checkerboard Pigeon with a Tony Tan Select LSS(Thanks Kenny), and the female is a Snow Fire (resulted from the same female Red Checkerboard Pigeon crossing with a Snow White). I have no idea what they will look like as adults, these are the first fry I got from this pair, took their eggs away from them last week to give them a little break, and today they laid again which is the new eggs you see in the picture.

This is also the first time I'm trying to use photobucket so hopefully this works, and, as my profile shows, I am located in Silver Creek NY.

    Mike

    Hello,

I also have some Ring Leopards... about 3 to 3.5" that were a cross between a Ring Leopard Female from Sunrise Tropicals and a Red Snakeskin. These are some pick of the litter ones for their coloring and the 3 in the picture are $75 each. If they sell through here 10% will go to the SimplyDiscus site.

Again..you must be local because I can't ship them.

Very tempting ring leopards!I am about 1hr from you too!Hmm.Two of those would be a nice addition for my 90.But with 6 4-5 inch discus it may be crowded.

Hi Marnold....thanks for looking .... it sounds like you need a bigger tank

    Hi FishyJ,

Thanks for the interest, The fry aren't ready to go yet..... in a week or so they should be large enough to go and going after other foods as good as they do the BBS..... they are still getting BBS about 10 times a day but tomorrow I'm going to start introducing them to some beefheart flake. These will be $10 each and I'll be doing the same with 10% going to the SimplyDiscus site.

Just in case anyone might be interested I also have some 1" or so ABN's that will go nicely with them. These are just the regular fin ones, I'm hoping to have some longfinned ones shortly but it hasn't happenned yet with them.

Here is a video of the Discus fry from tonight going after the BBS before I put them to sleep. They are in a 75 gallon if that helps for size perspective.

    Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the nice comments, I see that you are still working your magic with acquiring excellent Discus to pass on to anyone fortunate enough to visit the forum......before you are sold out that is.... I'm a couple of generations now from the great stock I received from you but am getting some really nice red variations from those that were crossed with the select LSS's you supplied me with! I have a very nicely colored Red Leopard type male (From a select LSS/select LSS pairing) that just laid eggs tonight with a Red Gold Diamond female so those should be something to look forward to if they are viable. I've got my fingers crossed.

    Hi Ron,

Good to hear from you. Still have all the breeders going? Did you ever get the Red Covers to breed? I haven't had any luck with them so far. I still have the couple of nice females I got from Bob but no luck with a male pairing with either one yet. BTW I had a guy, Jim from Brockport, here a couple weeks ago that was looking for some ABN's and mine were too small at the time so he was supposed to call you. I think he'd been at your place before. I remember that you had hundreds (thousands?) of them when I was there.

I'm sure your setup is still much more extensive than mine... anytime you want to come out let me know, I certainly like showing them off and talking Discus.... toooooo much if you ask anyone that knows me

    Hi Jim,

They should be good to go soon. I have them started on beefheart flake and golden pearls, but they still get much more excited when I put in the BBS. I'll PM you soon.

    Hello all,

Do you know when you hatch BBS and you have that last part of it that takes forever to try to separate from the remaining shells........what a pain!

So I thought I'd try something different..... deep glass, fill with aquarium water.... let it settle..... place in the tank slowly..... it doesn't take long and you have this

And for those of you that inquired the discus fry are about an inch or so now and eating beefheart flake and golden pearls quite well so they can go anytime you are ready for them.

    Hi Jeff,

If it's the fry / juveniles that you are interested in I'm not sure on the 1st batch of them...someone had expressed an interest in most of what I still have of them but hasn't visited yet. I'll know more after this weekend. I have younger ones coming up but they'll be a few weeks before they're a good enough size to go.

    Mike
