Thats right Waters, the NLS pellet, they HATED. The freeze dried mysis shrimp, just floated around the tank. Combining these in the mix makes the food worth it. The fish eat it and love it in the form of a mix.

Would adding a bit of clear non flavored gelatin help to keep it bound together? I have also used a natural seaweed gelatin called Agar in my food mixes.

I am going to give this a try today. I will do 2 batches, one with agar and one without. I will let you know how it goes.

    Hey eddie,
Looks like an awosome recipe. i think using deveined shrimp would make an excellent addition. since they are sticky it will be a good binding agent imo.
I made a mix (its actually BOB Garside's recipe with little bit of tweak) deveined shrimp about 15 of them, 5 cloves of garlic, some nuturous powder, spinach and vitamin pills. It doesnt break down in the water as much.

let me know what you think,

Sounds like a good option, may have to try it out. Thanks for advising it.

    Hi basshead,...

quick question, I just got all ingredients you suggest except the clams, they were extremely expensive. Do you think it would be ok to use canned clams that are minced?

If not, can I leave them out and substitute with something else like raw shrimp which I do have.

    Thanks

Go to any Asian (Chinese) supermarket if you are lucky to have one near you, and the seafood should be pretty reasonably priced. I scoped out all the options today at the big store near me, and it's not expensive at all. I would use a white fish filet along with lots of prawn (big shrimp) and tuna...maybe salmon added too for color. I would also mix vitamin, garlic, paprika (for red color), boiled spinach, and any processed fish flakes or pellets that's not being used...with a black banana and everything should be good to go. I have a big can of Tetra Krill-E sitting around that nobody wants to eat, and I am sure once pulverized by a coffee grinder, will make a wonderful addition to the recipe in the food processor too.

I am still loving Al's BH magic mix, and one of these days, I will do a pile of Eddie's recipe too for some variety. Thank you, Eddie!

Yup, the first few batches had shrimp instead of clams. It was equally as good IMO.

So for substituting clams, use about the same weight in shrimp.

And yes, Francis is right. In Japan, any fresh tuna, salmon and seafood can be picked up at the corner store for less than 5 bucks. This amount will make batches that last well over a month.
