i found this listing on craigslist. someone has until wednesday or....smash!! i thought about parts, but i don't even recognize most of that stuff under the tank.

    http://atlanta.craigslist.org/zip/1046541188.html

at 4' wide i cant figure how i would even get it into the house, let alone if the crack if fixable. if anyone has any ideas...i would luv to hear about them.

Link is pointing to a deleted post. Many tanks that are more than 30" deep are 30" (or less) high, so you'd just need to turn the tank on its side, if so. Otherwise, you'd need som pretty wide internal doorways, plus a wide entry (sliders? french doors?). In my case (96x36x30), I went with the 30" height for ease of maintanence more than ease of entry.

the link still displays on my screen - only the search results title says "Sorry, GONE within 2 hours". i tried to call the church to check but i am not getting an answer.

any idea if that tank could be repaired?

FREE! Take it away! We need the open space for our church events. This huge aquarium as been salt water in the past, then changed to fresh for years, and most recently has been empty a few years due to a few small cracks. We've been told the crazed plexiglass surface can be polished out. All pumps, filters and equipment are underneath in large storage compartment. Fluorescent lighting in cover.
    ...
You need a truck, as the size is 4 ft. x 8 ft. x 7 ft. high.

Ah, okay, posting at the same time. It's acrylic, so yes, theoretically, it could be repaired (acrylic is bonded on a molecular level). Personally, though, I would not trust that much water to a cracked tank. Now, if you had some Burmese Pythons you need to house...

I have fixed cracked glass and plastic tanks....the way on plastic isn't real pretty, but it holds water..it also depends on where the crack is...I take two peices of plastic and afix them to the inside and outside of the tank..with plastic I use the liquid plastic glue then use clear silicone[around the edges,,,,it has worked for me....just my two cents worth.

That is an awesome size! And for free.... I'd take it (if I had the space)... you could be really creative with it and make some sort of terrarium and one side could be a shallow water area, then building sand/rocks/dirt up to the side where the crack is... you would just have to make something to hold water on the inside. The rest you could put some really awesome tropical plants and maybe exotic frogs (poison arrow) or such. The possibilities are endless! Go for it!

could the cracked area have been converted to a sump-like section to eliminate the leak?

that puppy is 1675 gal. i was already making truck arrangements

Using mench's method would work well enough to insure no leaks, but it would be unsightly. Can the "back" become the "front"? If not, you could do some concealing with custom furniture. Yes, you could also install a new pane to shut off that area and make it an overflow, reducing pressure tremendously. How tall is teh tank again?>

160 discus....wow, i was gonna use it for an all discus community tank, so i guess my water bill would have been hugely impacted. i realize it's a moot point, but i'll be ready if i ever see a deal like this again.

they did not give the exact dimensions on the tank. tank + stand + canopy = 7', so i'm guessing the height of the tank alone is around 3'. i zoomed in but i still dont recognize much of anything under the tank

No clue on the equipment, looks like a canister array of filters like the Rainbow Lifeguard system, though.

The terrarium idea sounds AWESOME! That would be one huge collection of frogs. Congrats to whoever got this baby.
