    Ray and Discus #2.JPG

    Hello,

Attached are a couple of pictures of my tank with the ray, angels & discus.

The ray is really a very interesting fish, that is quite active and none of the fish are bothered by the ray and the ray is not bothered by any of the other fish.

This thread has me wanting some rays now. Only problem is that I don't have a place to put them. My 90 gallon main tank has too many tetras in it that would probably become ray food.

There is a PAIR (m/f) of teacups on Aquabid right now for $50. They're listed as 3-4 inches in diameter.

Just want to add my .02 here, since I have rays in with my discus. First off "tea cup ray" is a term given to a young ray, it is not a species of ray. typically when you see the term tea cup ray it is going to be a retic, or a hystric. Both rays do stay a little smaller maxing out with a disc size around 14" and a tail about the same length. the problem with these rays is they are not as hardy as say a motoro. And they have very small mouths and can be hard to get eating. Most of these tea cup rays die shortly after they have been purchased. A better ray would be a motoro, they are a hardier ray and much easier to get eating. But on the other hand they get very large, it's not uncommon for females to have a disc diameter of 24" or more. The males tend to stay a little smaller. the smallest tank that I would keep a adult motoro in would be a minimum of 3 feet front to back. And like mentioned already rays are very messy and poop a lot. All that a side the rays are my favorite fish that I keep or have kept in the past. Very fun to just sit and watch them cruise the tank looking for food. They will suck up water and then blow it into the sand looking for any food and critters burried in the sand that they can eat. It really is a cool site to see.

the teacup ones supposedly only get about 12" in diameter plus tail so probably nothing less than a 200g would be my guess not to mention you need a large footprint for your tank as well, i've seen then with everything but dont put them with any small bottom feeders you'll never guess what'll happen to them... lol

Wow, what a great looking fish! I'd love to have one, but I want a community heavy tank. Beautiful though!
