Congo Tetra definitely, and 7-10 is enough for a whole tank by themselves because they are relatively large, and I love their color and fins. mike

I am having good luck with black neons. There is 16 in my 180 and they stay mid to upper level and are schooling well.. They are a good looking tetra IMO

The rummy nose imo are the nicest schooling fish I've ever had. Like rickztahone said they are a good indicator of water quality.I plan on adding another 18 more after qt of course to my 125.

Bleeding Heart Tetra, Diamond Tetra and Brass Tetra are good for me. Congo Tetra look great but they are the type of fish that dont know when its time to stop eating. They will eat till they explode. And they'll compete for food with your Discus.

I have rummy's, black neons, and cardinals in all my tanks and the best and tightest schooling fish are glass cats. They are very hardy also but they get a little big.

I love glass cats, one of my favorite fish. The only problem is, even though, yeah, they're VERY tight schoolers, they don't really move around much (not at all really) for it to be appreciated. Then there's that whole transparent thing. Great fish though.

So kinda off topic, but does the presence of these tetras effect your ability to dose common discus meds?

If so, how do you get around it?

Good question Yas, I know that sometimes certain fish or invertabrates can't handle certain meds. It would be helpful to know if anyone has had any problems with certain schooling fish and meds. It would be a shame to wipe out a huge school of something when dosing your discus.

Might be able to get some answers if you give this its own thread ; )

I have to agree with the Rummynose's, always in a tight school (I have 9 in my 94), my Cardinals' stay a bit more dispersed but will stay in small packs.
I always liked Lemon Tetra's in a group of 6 or so, they usually would stay tightly packed and their subtle coloring was always very pleasing but i have not kept them for years.

My favorite schooling fish would be sardines. Since nobody has a tank large enough to actually have any fish that schools I guess my favorite shoaling fish
    would be cardinal tetras.

Schooling fish in discus tank would have to be bleeding hearts or lemon tetras and just all around favorite schooling fish is the galaxy rasbora aka celestial pearl danio... amazing.

Edit: I have what I wouldn;t call a school of rams just 2 females... but they follow one another... I wouldn't call it schooling tho
