But they have already donated the Challenge fish & the participants get to keep them. Couldn't ask for more than that. More than generous already, I'd say..... but wouldn't it be nice if one of SD sponsor's will donate a breeding pair of Super-Duper xxx discus for the winner?
Cheers
Robyn
Hi Dan,
I would welcome anyone thats wants to put up Discus for a prize for the contest or wants to contribute funds to running it Sponsors or members!..
I would not ask the sponsors to do more than they do already...as a group they are a very generous and supportive group...one I am honored to work with here at Simplydiscus!
Seriously though.. as Dan and Rox said free fish and fame are the prize.. You need not donate them to the board though at the end of the contest..they are yours to do with as you please... I think this thread

summarizes alot of what the winner gets for their hard work.

Dan,
The moderators judged all the fish...we used the point system that is outlined in the University section...It was not based solely on size.
Hear, Hear - well said AlI would not ask the sponsors to do more than they do already...as a group they are a very generous and supportive group...one I am honored to work with here at Simplydiscus!
Couldn't agree more, that's how I feel too - just said it in different words.Seriously though.. as Dan and Rox said free fish and fame are the prize..
Darren (& the US sponsors) still can't get over your generosity.
Cheers
Robyn
Dan,
As Dan said Moderators judged the fish and based on the scorecard used by the university staff... who also judged the fish..
If you want to see how it was broken down ...
read this thread...and see the specific contest grading breakdown from last year here...

I would be interested too! My water troubles are all over and I am feelin lucky! Already pm'd.
Al,
I for one would be willing to auction the fish back to SD members and contribute a portion of the funds to SD. I'd give 100% back to SD but there are expenses to raising discus! LOL!
Naturally the winning bidder would have to pay shipping and all of that, but I'm sure that they would be getting excellent fish for a great price and it all benefits this site! Just a thought!
Best wishes!

Hi Al,
I was wondering if you had a rough timeframe for the start of the Aussie side of the challenge this year. The only reason i ask is that i will be away on holidays from the 27th of April to the 8th of May. Just asking so i can plan ahead.
Kind Regards,
Yes my favorite show "Discus Idol" is back for another season. Now I don't have to watch "Amer. Idol" on TV. Just make mandatory, pics at list twice a month.
Hi Ben,
I'll have to get back to you on that after I talk with Darren..

Hi all,
This community is a really great one and I enjoy the pms I get from people and really appreciate the support so many of you show the forum..Still, every once in while I get a Pm from a member here that really blows me away with their generosity and appreciation for this forum and the role we try to play in the Hobby.
I got such an email from one of our members that wishes to be kept anonymous.. That member has offered a prize to the North American Contest winner... The Prize is 2 each juvenile Zebra plecos ~3"(L046-Hypacintrus Zebra), shipping included!
Now, those of you that know plecos will understand the generousity here... as these Plecos are probably one of the most wanted and expensive plecos in the Hobby..and they do well in discus tank. They usually sell for anywhere from $200-300 each at this size! add in the shipping and its an amazing offer!
note...
If the winner is canadian, you'll need to be able to get them in the USA at a border FEDEX as I can't guarantee I can arrange shipment to Canada.
A few pics that I was given of this members stock are attached...these are not the photos of the actual Zebra plecos that will be shipped.
Now the Disclaimer.. Since the person donating these will be holding them for a period of 1 year while the contest goes on...theres no way to guarantee that unforseen issues may not arise.. If they do and the fish become unavailible.. The prize becomes unavailible and no substitutions or cash value can be given
So there you go.. a little incentive for the North American Contest!
and to our donor... My Sincerest Thanks!
