    Default sponge filter use

i am about to switch all my filtration to sponges. my only negative thoughts about sponges are that IMO they take up so much space and they seem to accumulate crap around the base. so considering space, cleaning, and best filtration, what is best for per tank? 1 per tank, 2 per tank? appropriate or over filtration, supplimented filtration (see poll options).

my spawns go from 20g (long) -> 37g (high) -> 75g and i could suppliment with the HOBs that i already have. so, let me ask your opinions on this. i appreciate your polling and additional comments.

Well you have more experience than me Wes but I like to use 2 sponges rated for the minimum tank size. I do the same with heaters in the tanks, 2 each rated for the minimum.

    Best of luck my friend,

No sponge at all, just 1 piece of foam on one side of the tank, air lift (or small pump, power head) and you're good to go. Second best option after a central system,

Yup Hans, I am curious to see how you placed the pumps. Can you get pictures of the way to positioned the pumps and where the outflow is?

    Thanks

The power heads are behind the foam, hard to make a picture of that.

The outflow is one each side one and one in the middle, just over the back ground,

You need to adjust the poll, since a 125 gallon tank would be different than a ten gallon tank.

I like two sponges so one gets cleaned each water changed, but it really doesn't make a difference on smaller tanks. I also don't size sponges based on tank size. The bio load is what really counts. Overstocked fry grow out tanks need more filtration that reasonably lightly loaded pair tanks.
