    Default Introduction

Hi all, My name is Jim Hudak and I live in Niagara Falls NY. I first like to thank you for chosing me. I also would like to thank Kenny,Forrest.have been keeping fish for over 25 years. I have had Africans, Tropicals and salt water. I always wanted to keep discus but didn't know to much about them. I started doing research and came across Simply Discus. After reading, I was hooked. Took my 125 gallon African tank and converted it to a Discus tank. I have been keeping discus for 6 months now with pretty good success. The mistakes on the first ones hopefully will be eliminated this go round.
I will be running a 55 gallon tank, with sponge filters. It will be a bare bottom with daily water changes. They will be fed the same as my other juvies, 9 times a day on different foods. Some of the food is store bought and some is my mix that I have been using. I will be giving weekly water prams, temps and tds. As they grow they will be moved to the 125 after switching a few things around. I am excited to share anything I can with everyone and grow healthy and big discus. Once again thanks to all and good luck to everyone, now lets grow some big fish!!! Jim

Thanks everyone,After looking at them I now may have to rethink what tank they will be going in. They just may be getting my 125. I'll have to switch things around and my other juvies will get the 55 or maybe a 75.

    Hi Jim, congratulations.

Sounds like you will have a nice size tank to grow out your discus. I can only imagine you will do well. I like your signature, never too old to learn. Life would be boring without learning something new each day.
Wish you the best with your fish this coming year. Bill

Thanks everyone, I am looking forward to see just how big I can grow them against other people. I did decide to put them in the 125 and transfer the other fish to the 55. The 55 may will be over the limit but some of by biggest ones will go back in the 125 after a while. I have been doing water changes by tds and will continue to follow this pattern. When my tds reaches 200 or any other water parms become an issue my tank gets a 95 % water change, but everyday while cleaning out tank I take out 20+ gallons. Stocking low levels in a big tank allows me to do this. The only thing in the tank will be a couple of cory cats that I have had for 6 months and maybe 2 bn's.
