I had twelve boxes in my yard, and used bread and yogurt when the temperature was
around the 60's and switch to water and bread during the warmer months. Good food and
    cheap.

so far I have no mould but I use white bread and it has preservative so no mould. I will try the yeast and see.

Also I keep them in cool temperature, at about 55F, in the basement, so maybe that is why the bread does not fool.

    Hi Danella,
The 12 boxes of whiteworms were only feed to a dozen breeders, nothing left for the
growouts. With a 12 boxes of worms there comes an attraction of flys so then came the
pest strips, then came the mice. Finally the boxes got moved in the basement but then
space was taken up by a new car.

I recently read an article on culturing white worms in the ACA's Buntbarsche Bulletin. In that Mike Helweg claims that white worms being full of fat as a myth. He states that they are full of protein with little fat. He feeds his dwarf chiclids this diet daily with very good results.

yesterday I had put a few pieces of white bread with milk (one square inch each) in the 2 cultures and I went to check it today and wow..nothing left. Not a bit of bread left! They eated the whole bread and now I have added double what I put yesterday. They really eat a lot!

How many did you feed per fish? I have read that 3 to 5 for each fish, but I guess that depend on the size of the fish. My large discus could eat probably 30 of them in a zip.

    Daniella,
I don't know how many per fish but probably about a pound for a dozen pairs when available.
Soak the worms with vitamins, or if the fish are sick soak the worms with medication.

Those are very expensive to hatch and of low nutritional value if not enriched. What makes you think it's the best food?

Until they are 24 hours old, they don't even have a digestive trac, so one must wait 24 hours, then use some liquid to enrich them so they will be nutritious enough. Quite a pain but probably best food for baby discus

Artemia are really small for adult discus though.

How long do you soak them, like with metronidazole? I guess one must not soad them too long or they will die? And what vitamines do you use?

    thanks.

Artemia is a good source of live food for discus.Through artemia enrichment program, discus can be enriched with vitamins, proteins, immune stimulant and medications........even white worms needs to enrich to have nutritional value too.....one bottle of brine shrimps can last for a long time....expensive.......Best food....why so many people give their fry brine shrimps from the start.....if no good why bother with brine shrimps at all...........I have no written proof why brine shrimp is an ideal food source.....so if you want proof better go and visit farms and talk to the Commercial Pro Discus breeders........

A problem with soaking live food with meds is that you have no way of knowing how much med the fish is getting. You need to know that they are getting a therapeutic level.
