That is amazing. What in the world are you feeding her, pro-more? Good luck with the hatch. They are a beautiful pair. I love the rose reds.

Hello All. I woke this morning to find that my Rose Red pair had spawned and was amazed as I took a closer look. Im sure many of you have seen larger spawns but its the largest spawn I have ever seen to date. I actually took a picture, loaded it to my computer and counted the eggs. Yes, thats right. I reaaly did count them. There are 600 plus eggs ! Now we will just have to see how many were fertilized. Check out the pair and clutch of eggs. I will keep you all updated. Good luck with the fry Bob
Jeez Louise Bob! And from a nice looking pair as well! Fingers crossed lots hatch.
Congrats Bob, I might have to make a trip up to you in a couple months
Bob,
Has this pair had a viable spawn before? I mean have you gotten wigglers from this pair? The reason that I ask is that with that many eggs, it's likely they are both laying eggs.... two females.
I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but that kind of egg count is record setting!
Best wishes!

I was thinking the same thing Chad. Should be intresting to see if they hatch. It is possible I think. I have seen some very big females.

I wold LOVE to see this spawn hatch in full.... could you imagine having 600 + fry all from one spawn! Good lord! LOL! In fact, I'll take a dozen off your hands. Sounds like these wold be awesome breeders!
Best wishes!

I have seen a spawn with 600+ eggs. Lee, of Seatle Koi and Discus had a pair of 9"+ Red Dragons at his place that he showed me.
Mat
must be rose reds here are one of my spawns
i hope yours hatch for you mine where not successful . and no i did not
count mine
LOL... good one COCO. I always est a small group anyway. Its really nice to see this and is made possible in part by guys Like Kenny and Mike. The fish being brought in are in great health. Healthy discus produce large spawns. I feel lucky anyway.

Its nearly 48 hours and all seems to be very well here with this spawn. To answer a few questions, they are not two females but a male and female pair. The eye is now visible in the eggs which should become wigglers sometime tomorrow as long as the male and female continue parenting well. As far as the counting of the eggs goes, its not something I normally do. I have recently tried using straight aged tap in my breeder tanks rather then an RO mix and want to keep track of my hatch percentage to see how much of a difference there will be. Pics below were taken this evening. I'll try and update when and if they make it to the wiggler stage.
