bob ,
that's a top effect there your going to be very busy ... i like the close up shot , not many white ones in that lot hey
cheers coco
COCO, No not to many white ones for the size of the spawn. Im guessing a 90% plus hatch rate which Im very surprised about using straight aged tap water. As far as being very busy goes, there is no difference weather its a batch of 50 or 500. Its all still feeding and water changes. Last evening I was a bit concerned as I noticed the female starting to peck at and clean other areas in the tank, constantly going back and forth to the sponge filter and the heater. Her breeding tube ws not exposed so I ruled out that she wanted to lay eggs again. I woke this morning to wigglers and found that the female was cleaning an area to move the batch. All of the wigglers have been moved to the sponge filter and the Adults are still caring for them well. Now lets hope attachment goes well a few days from now. Its hard to get the true color of these discus in pics but they have darkened to a deep tomato red. I took one shot this morning of the wigglers on the sponge filter which are hard to see but you can get an idea. Hopefully Ill be back updating pics after attachment.

Ya you have them on the SF now. Looks like a good lot of fry too. Record your water parameters. Thats a great spawn. Well done

Hello Chad,
Yes I had wigglers yesterday and as mentioned earlier a 90 % plus hatch rate. The male and female are tending them well, retrieving those that choose to wander away from the sponge and spit them back with the others. I actually dropped a few Gold Albino wigglers in the tank with the Rose Reds and they retrieved those and put them with the others as well. Should have free swimmers soon. Ill let you know how the attachment went.

Excellent Excellent Reds Bob. I usually not a huge "red" fish fan primarily because of the 2 different colors - beidge on the face and red body. But this pair is one color, nice shape, nice size. Would surely looking for the dibs on a few fry's there. Excellent.

Congrats! I did not count all of my spawns but the largest that I ever did count was 453 at about 12 to 15 days when I pulled them from the parents.

WOW John, Thats hugh. What was your final number after culling?
Ed

I don't remember, but the cull rate was pretty low. The next week a pulled a MR spawn that was 352. 800+ from 2 spawns was not a bad average......LOL.

Some time last evening the wigglers went free swimming and the batch attached 100% without having to remove the sponge or lower the water level. The pics below are what I woke to this morning. They dont even interpret just how many fry there really are. Guess I better stock on on brine shrimp eggs.

Congrats on the spawn Bob! One of my favorite strains. I have two pairs myself, but NEVER had a spawn that big! I would just watch the parents in the weeks to come, to make sure they are not too stressed out from all the feeding. Both my pairs do not handle the bigger(thumbnail) sized fry well, and I usually have to remove them because of that. Good luck...Bill
Holy crap! That is awesome! Congrats!
