    Default Week 5

Well, two days late on this post. I had to take the grandkids back to Sacramento, CA yesterday.
Sixteen hours driving and made it home in time for a water change, so they have not missed one yet.
I sure wanted to talk myself out of doing that water change but that is one of those commitments
that you decide you will follow through with to keep those fish healthy.

I probably will not take my discus out of the tank for any measurements until later in the competition.
I am confident they are a little over four inch and on par with the rest of the competition so you all will have to trust me on their size.
I guess I will wait until we have to break out the yard sticks to take measurements. ha ha

I change seventy to seventy five percent of their water daily so the parameters have remained the same consistently.
PH 6.5, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and less than 5 nitrates. The water is still soft 65 microseimens and seems to be working fine
    for their growth rate.

They still get beefheart/shrimp mix morning and evening, Hakari pellets at noon water change and flakes 3 or 4 times
during the day. They are still attacking the food at each feeding so things seem to be doing very well.

One thing I find interesting is that there are eight of us contestants and all raising our discus slightly different and with a
100% success rate. No problems from anyone so far has got to be a testament to good fish keeping or a testament to a
really tough good batch of discus. I think it's both, good job guys and many thanks to Kenny.

Last week I said I would try to get a couple close up pictures of one discus that has the most color and it was developing
in a pattern between where the vertical stress bars would be located. Try to add at least one tank shot each week.
Added a couple close ups of the spots on two of the discus. One has spots on it's side as well as large spots on it's anal fin.
Tough to get those side shots, they are usually facing the glass with their mouth open, feed me, feed me.
    Pretty fish.

Interesting patterns developing on these fish. I wonder what they will look like at the end of the year. They look great, nice and fat and happy. Good work.

Looking good Bill! Nice coloring and patterns and they all seem to be of a consistent size. None appear to be lagging. Good job.

Hey Kirk, I kind of figured right from the beginning there would be smaller ones and made an attempt to feed on both sides of their long tank.
I also got them on flake food that floats around the tank so each one gets their fill most of the day. Not sure if that did any good but it was my attempt
to keep things equal for them. There is less than a half inch between the largest and smallest. Probably pretty similar to yours.
