Hoping to see the fry with its papa n mama soon
Eddie,
Great job buddy...I agree, nothing cooler than seeing a pair or Mom/Dad take care of their young.....always enjoy seeing what you are working with over there....and don't sweat it Bro, 12 fry is an accomplishment!
Keep us posted and good luck.
Eric
Hoping to see the fry with its papa n mama soon
Darn the bad luck all, unfortunately the male ate the fry. Really weird because we were only asleep for 2-3 hours. When I went downstairs, all the babies were gone and all the old/hatched eggs were cleaned off the cone. I tossed the female back in the tank before we left out. Maybe they'll try again, who knows. At least it was cool seeing the little wrigglers! I hope they do end up being a good pair.
Take care all,
Eddie
Stunning Fish Eddie, I'm sure they will spawn again; just give them some time
Sorry to hear that the fry were eaten. Now that the pair have a little experiance maybe they will do better next time. Good luck with them.

So the last time the 2 spawned, I coned the eggs, removed Mom and they turned to wrigglers. Slowly Dad was able to somehow eat them so I took out the egg guard, put Ma back in and left for Texas, literally. LOL Now the wife mentioned that they had a new batch of eggs the day before yesterday and today she told me that she noticed all the eggs gone. She figured they ate the eggs but apparently all the eggs hatched and Ma and Pa moved the wrigglers to the backside of the cone. Hopefully they feel like raising them this time. There is just something about not changing water and not feeding the fish that gets mine going, strange. Hopefully will have some photos of them when I return. Keep your fingers crossed, mine are!
Take care,
Eddie
How exciting! Maybe they just need their privacy. LOL. Good luck with them.

Fry everywhere, Eddie. Amazing !

Thanks! The funny thing is, there are NO lights on any of my tanks, just when the sun comes up or goes down. Which means its damn near pitch black at night and very dim in the days. Strange....guess they enjoy dim lit rooms. Wonder how they are able to see the fry to move them around the cone at night....
Eddie
They do come from dark dark waters, must see and smell very well. Discus can be such dumb creatures eating there eggs and fry, but you'll get them there if anyone can Eddie, you have great persistence.
Mark
thats funny how that works man, once the WCs and feedings stop, they start goin! its ironic...maybe your onto something here Eddie. great news tho, I hope you can raise up some heckel X fry...I want some!

very nice, would love a few of those myself...
Funny you should mention that Jason, they went free swimming last night when I got home. The parents are meticulously keeping them bunched up on the cone. I had to drop the water level, since they are in a 45, too much space for the fry to get away. I love going out of town!
Just beautiful Eddie!
Cheers Kath
DEF Nice, feel like they are more simply's babies than your own though
Congrats again man!
