thats just a very sick discus IMO. Im pretty sure theres no such thing as a black discus...sometimes people find black ones, but they are only that way because they are very ill.
Is there really a black discus?
I saw this picture online.

black from approaching (if not already) . the fins on that fish tell a pretty good story. a black discus won't fly on this site until its a video of a live fish with fins spread wide

that fish is definately not doing well.
his tail fin is melted off.
you wouldnt catch me dead with a black discus. lol. it goes against everything we have been taught. dark fish equals illness.
i had one at my home long time back .. looked very similar to this coz it was very ill..will post a pic tomorrow..should find in the hdd somewhere
There actually is a video of a black discus, many have posted it over the years. Probably a very ill fish with alot of nerve damage. There is not an elegant black discus.

The way new strains are showing up, wondering if somebody might be bold enough to make it a goal the creation of a healthy black strain.... OK I need to stop drinking tequila
Hard to say for sure but the background and fish itself make me think it's a wild caught discus.

I do have an extremely moody discus, Sybil, who stays rather dark but otherwise seems healthy. Sometimes if anything changes with the routine she turns black. When I first got her she would turn black whenever my brother fed the fish. If I fed them their next meal she would be ok again. The color change seems to be a mood change and is not her regular color tho.

if you look closely, you can see the bars in the Discus, so I dont think its photoshop'd
I did notice the tail fin and I am aware that Discus get darker if they are ill (from reading posts), but I had no idea they turn this black.
Hi I was glad to read your post... Hooray I have a discus that I have had for over 6 months and It keeps turning black then will change back to allmost a pale colour??? Then will stay dark for days then will show a bit of bright blue. It still eats comes up to the front of the tank when ever I walk near. I have it in a hospital tank as every thing I have read says it is sick except for your post.....
Thanx
That fish is definately sick. Look at it's fins, they are nearly gone.
That's one sick puppy there.
