Re: Some pictures
An little update.
Yesterday a tought that the batch had been eaten, cause I could only see a few on the glas here and there. Today I could see a swarm trying to attach to the heckels on the other tank ( neighbors)
It seems like the parents had moved them again, first time that a pair moves it batch 2 times..
Anyhow... happy to see them I took out the spong, the neighbors and in with air in the other side of the tank.
1 hour and the pair had collected all the fries.
It seems like the fries prefer the wild side
Dont think I have mention that heckels are not newly imported. The fish comes from Göran Ekholm in the first place.
They are a little older now, not in so good shape, but they are getting there i belive.

Re: Some pictures
Hi Ben!
It´s going well i think.
The Red Cover Female is the most dominante of the two.
I have seen 3 or 4 dead fry (do you spell it fries? plese tell me so I learn)
Heres is a fresh video from today
http://www.youtube.com/user/Diskusfo.../0/NJB5OO00vnQ
Even got som redwood from a local store today.
and were thinking to put them down in the the heckel tank.
But I could see that an male heckel were shaking and a fish that I tought were an hecke male were accepted in the area, and / she/ were picking on the same wood. not shaking (what I can see)
anyhow.... this is the wood that I bought today.
( still have some toughts about insert the redwood qiuck, cause the male is really a B***erd against other fish.

Re: Some pictures
Beautifull fish and an amazing future setup.
My thought about the wood : if it hasn't been in a tank yet it will have to be sterilised. Not only will it release tannins but it may have some fungus on it that will destroy any spawn. I would definetely use that wood for a heckel tank, but not with the breeders until it has been thoroughly cleaned (boiled).
Thanks for sharing and please keep posting, I'm following this thread with pleasure (and envy I must admit) !

Re: Some pictures
Those are fabulous! I love them! Are they from the Heckel cross RR? They have some amazing shape and I love the deep red/brown with striations. I think these will be some very interesting Red Turks as adults.
Thanks for updating!

Re: Some pictures
Thanks!
Yes they are the first offspring.
Someone grows nicely , a few dont grow at all.
The male is back in the Heckel tank and the female still goes with the offspring.
She has settled down a bit, The most evil female I ever had.
Well... I am married and.... but don´t count that one.
The Heckel male seems to paired up with a female.. I hope.
Well he dont beat the crap out of one fish so, think I´m gonna try to move them when I got the time and space.
Have some single fish and some youngsters that still needs the tank.
Would be interesting to know how many who had a female heckel to breed with a domestic.
Could you trigger that female with a trigger happy domestic male then maybe it could be some easier to get some results with Heckel x Heckel.

Re: Some pictures
Heckel X domestic is pretty common, generally with males. I haven't seen many female heckels hook up. Would be interesting, to have the domestic female in the group Heckels and spawn. This might trigger some loving throughout the tank.
