Biggest discus I've seen in person was at the local hardware store here in Japan. Biggest fish EVER!! Imagine that a breeding cone is roughly > 9 inches tall.
What is the biggest/largest/heaviest discus that was ever known? Was it 9"? Does anybody have any pics of giant discus?

I went to a lfs the other day, in another city, and a girl working there who has discus at home swears she has a wild discus that is as big as a dinner plate! I sure would like to see it!

People exaggerate, that's for sure. I suspect that a very few discus can exceed 9", but that's extremely rare. Kenny offered some snakeskins awhile back that were an honest 8", and a couple of my blue scorps really, really, are 7". They're as large as any I've seen in person, but then I haven't seen a whole lot of discus, either, except in pictures...
Most of the time, you can subtract an inch from however large people claim adult discus to be, land pretty much on an accurate measurement... sad but true...
The "Biggest" ones always seem to get away....
The biggest discus that I ever had measured 6 3/8 inches WITHOUT its tail. Never measured him with his tail.
For the last several years anytime someone makes a dumbass claim on the size of their discus I have asked them to put the fish on a towel with a tape measure and take a picture. No one ever post their results. This is mainly because when they measure their discus they are not near as big as they thought they were.

All advice I give, is because I've good results with it, you're free to copy it. It's not a rule, it's just my way. Ohhhh and don't take me serious, I'm most of the time kidding

Most write ups say - Heckels up to 8" and the others up to 6". I think anything 8" or larger is more of a genetic anomaly and nothing to be proud of - should be frowned upon.
I tried looking at those Hans photos - they are sooo tiny!
Could not make out the numbers on the ruler.

The men's world record for the men's 2kg discus throw is held by Jurgen Schult of Germany with a throw of 74.08 meters in 1986.
Sorry I had to.

I remember a discussion about this about the same time last year. Walter posted some photos of Hans discus and they are truly giant. If you look at the end of the post, you can see the large ones that Kenny sold about 2 years ago.

The biggest one I knew by far is the giant LSS from Lee Tong Juan a few years ago in competitions (sorry don't remember which), also another one from Tony Tan...they are both said to be around 10'' TL.
courtsy of Lee Tong Juan
courtsy of Tony Tan
