    I'm also a bit stubborn in my way of doing aquarium photography, constantly refusing to use a flash. Instead I did put my money in a high end camera housing which can handle high ISO settings without ridiculously high levels of noise. Most of my photos in a session goes straight in the trash bin due to motion blur. But when I occassionaly make a good one, it's really worth the effort.

    That is my way of creating true to life aquarium photographs.

    But you're right, using flash destroys the photo! All I have is the original Digital Rebel and I was still blown away how little noise higher ISO had when compared to point and shoot cameras.

    But you're using a freaking awesome lens! When I read "L", I knew it was an awesome lens! But then I searched for the exact model and I realized it's way beyond my league! There's no way around it. Every amazing fish picture I see on this or other forums, involve a high-end lens. I guessed a macro lens, cause I saw a lot of nice pics with the Tamron di Macro lens.

    Yes, it's a nice lens...

    Tank measurements are ~ 60" x 20" x 20"
    Tank volume = ~ 96 US Gallon
    WC = 2 x 30% weekly, ordinary tap water.
    pH = around 7 - water filtered over Alder Catkins
    Temp = 81F
    Filtration = Eheim 2213 + 8W UV
    Filtration = Fluval 304
    Lighting = almost none...
    Feeding = twice daily, varied frozen foods + D50 (no bh)
    Stocking = 10 x Corydoras Sterbai - 5 x L200 - 6 x Nhamundá Blue Wild Discus

    Hi

    to Ouscazz: excellent, is it that my message of natural biotope is really more and more being used? It makes me very happy, every detail is correct and the fishes look and feel great - they are telling me this... are they telling you also?
    I would not do anything else. perfect. Thanks.

    to Vera: i shall be soon (after the International Italian discus Championships April 16-18, towards end of the month) in Malta, maybe we can get together, will be there only a couple of days. My e-mail can be found on the lower bottom of my home page. Let me know.

    best regards and againd : keep up this great work.

    Very nice tank! Thanks for sharing the photos (nice camera and lens too - are you using a tripod or monopod since you aren't using any flash?).

    Thanks a lot guys!

    No, I have kept Heckels in 100% R/O water at pH 4,8. But it was way to hard to keep it stable so I had to back off and gradually/slowly change to tap water. The Heckels thrived in tap water too but didn't shine. My Altums were kept in tap water with great success and tremendous growth of the young ones.

    I'm shooting my photos free hand, no tripod used.

    Thanks alot Heiko, I'm really glad you liked my biotope scaping. The fish has been in there for four days only, and yes... by looking at their behaviour they are telling me everything is allright. The group love to cruise around the roots and branches in perfect sync and control, obviously they recognice their new environment in one way or the other.

    Hi Vera,

    I also see forward to Lecce, you will like it very much, not only is it a beautiful city, but the guys who organize this Discus Championships (the only one in Italy and for the 6th time - bi-annually which is perfect) are really great, you will see and see you there.

    Just remember my two lectures are saturday morning and in the evening I must leave already again...

    Have a good trip,

    always

    Heiko

    PS:Ouscazz: Yes like in nature they swim in groups. But please feed them well, as thse have been for month without food at the collectors/shippers places. Take care
