Default what is better: Hikari discus bio gold or Tetra colourbits?

    what is better?
i heard colourbits artificially colour your fish.
and bio gold is good cos it doesnt do that but has all the goodies in it.

    whats the consensus?
also, i hear that bio gold is easily eaten and is more attractive to discus.
    is this true?

I use colour bits and HIkari cichlid gold.

    Differences are:

Bits sink and are small and easy to eat and do enhance colours of fish. I use them and have no problems feeding it to my fish through a auto feeder.

Cichlid gold floats and is quiet hard to it takes a while for fish to adjust to chewing food rather than sucking it down like bits or bloodworm for example. Gold is made by a company that we all probably use in some way to feed our fish so big names=big bucks and research. Although bits are made by a huge company too....

I find that gold will cloud the water a little when the fish go for it as they tend to spit it out and take it back in several times until they swallow it so a lot of particles float around the tank and this is with the small pellet.

Read the good stuff on the back and try both in small amounts...I feed both all the time.

    hope that helps a bit

Can't answer all your questions, but when I wrote to Hikari 'bout food for my yellow discus (not to turn red) they did suggest the H. discus bio gold...tetra color bits will definitely turn'm red/orange..

Angel Plus 1.5 mm Fry Starter

For the price of either of the 2 you asked about, you'll get 4 times more the amount of 1.5mm pellets.

i found that the tiny pellets are ignored by the discus. tiny tiny pellets.
colour bits they love, c gold they love
but i am ordering hikari to try out see what boosts their size more.

+1 The Angel Plus 1.5 mm Fry Starter also does not break down very fast and that gives your Discus time to eat it instead of deteriorating and clouding the water.

Discus Bio Gold is great stuff. I've used pounds of it in the past. I use to buy it in 2.2 lb. foil bags for around $80, lasted a long time. I ran out, and haven't had any in a while, but it's great for Discus of all sizes and colors.

I can't really comment on quality, but I can say my discus won't eat any other dry bits but the Bio Gold. HAHA Picky little bastards.

I'm going to look into the stuff posted above, though. Thanks for the link.

I feed my discus both foods everyday...they seem to enjoy both well...but, I think I've noticed that they really do enjoy the Hikari Bio-Gold Discus food a bit more. Of course, maybe they're hungrier at lunchtime when I feed them the Hikari food as opposed to night when I feed them the TetraColor granules!

i got some sample packs of hikari discus gold,
they seem to like and relish it more.
not when dry, though some just eat it when its dry.
but more so when its soft and mushy and at the bototm of the tank.
most of the discus dont seem to feed off the top and graze at the bottom.

they tend to not chew and spit as much as they do when its colour bits.
wish hikari made slightly bigger pellets though

I was always taught that if the first ingredient in the list is Fish meal to keep on looking. For that alone, I would not use the Tetra product.

I use Hikari myself, but have an order for Omega One Super color flake. Price wise, it is expensive, but the ingredient list is incredible.
