I THINK i WAS FEEDING TO MUCH ALSO FOR ADULT FISH. i HAVE CUT BACK TO 2 TIMES A DAY NOW. ooops - caps - lol. Its hard to go from 5 times a day to 2 times a day after almost 2 years! LOL
Good Q! No real strict regime. Whatever my day dictates! Can vary from 2 - 6 times per day for sub adults, 2 for adults. As many as possible for fry - fish up to 10 months! Routine is great and works well for Discus. But remember there is nothing wrong with random feeding (as long as you are not underfeeding). After all the temporal acquisition of food resources in a fish’s habitat could be seen as highly variable.
The two best times to fish are when its raining and when it's not.

I bought 9 discus from a very well known breeder here in Southern CA. They were 3 months old at the time. He told me to feed them 5-6 times a day, and change their water 2 times a day at the rate of about 75%.
I have done this for about 4 months now. They are absolutely beautiful! They are getting ready to go into their new home, which will be a 125 gallon tank that will be planted with all kinds of live plants, driftwood, and etc.
I just don't feel that you can change water often enough. I also change all my angelfish tanks 3 times per week at about 50%.
I wonder how many out there will disagree with me?
Feed everything in the fish house twice a day, no more, no less. Change water 6 times a week.

Wow, I am way underfeeding my fish! Guess I better get on it. Also, I am only feeding my fish frozen brine and bloodworms. I tried beefheart in the past with little success with limited results but I'm going ot give it another shot. Any other suggestions on what to give them? Thanks.

For discus youngsters up to 8- 10 months -
I'm retired & do get a little bored from time to time - so I start feeding in the morning, & drop some food in every time I come into their room (my den), or every hour & a half or so, on average - just enough so that they clean it all up in under 2 minutes - sometimes it may work out to 5 X a day, other times 10 or more X a day - and they just keep cleaning it up like good little soldiers - very little, if any, goes to the bottom of the tank - I have to feed my Cories separately, or they'd starve !
Well Just as a fallow up - I have adults now - All large fish over a year old and I feed them 2 times a day - rarely 3 times. I feed Frozen bloow worms and Brine. I feed flakes and pellets and I alternate from day to day. I feed enoughf for them to get full with little to no wast. I have had great results cence I started this. Prior to this thread I was OVERFEEDING - lol. I guess it just depends on the age of your fish and what Kind of clean up you are willing to do to the tank.
