No Matt . Winn seems to have a way of handling this and hope it works for you. Hang in there ok.

Really baffling to me. Turned the lights on low, watched for 5mins and he whirled again. Turned the lights back off and haven't seen anything for close to 30mins maybe more. I don't think its the lights themselves affecting the fish, I feel like its more when a fish is in the active awake state that something is happening. When it goes more dormant, its not affected. Almost like as humans when we get sick, we sleep and while the virus is still inside us its not affecting us because we are at a state of rest or unconsciousness. Of course I don't have a crazy lab or test results or a white coat....just my observances and theory.

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
I am very sorry to hear that one more of your beautiful wilds is sick Hope the treatment will work. Rooting for you here.
Thanks Pat and Mauro, I need it. Sure is frustrating/depressing. My reef starts going amazing and my discus go downhill, guess we just can't have all the cake and eat it too. I've got the top covered, sides covered, lights out and metro in the tank. We'll see what happens I guess. Oh and he spazzed out just now and a few mins ago so I take back my theory on the darkness.
-Matt
Matt they will spaz even in the darkness but after a few time they will calm down. As long as they eat, you will be just fine rooting for you man.

I seem to have bad luck with the ones spazzing not eating at all. I'll try and see if this one doing it now will eat tomorrow. Going to let it be for the night and check status tomorrow, let the metro do its work.

This is the first time I've really been optimistic about the outcome. I think he did it sometime this morning but I haven't heard him do it since (knock on wood). And I just added food to the tank, he seems to be taking some though its a bit dark so tough to tell for sure. The good sign IMO is he is actually fighting back against the big red one in the tank. All of my other whirlers were just kind of totally out of it and didn't so any emotion. So fingers crossed it continues to go well. Winn's method is seeming to work so far. Still a long road will keep you updated. Also good that I caught it on the first day of it happening.

Wow, bummer Matt, hope this all works out for you. fingers crossed.
it really is sad.keep strong it will come rite.have faith in ur abilities and ur fish you doing a grat job.i can only hopy to have such lovely fish one day
Thanks. Seems to be helping some, haven't noticed it whirling or freaking out recently....still need to keep an ear out though just in case I am missing it. Going to try some more food here in a few minutes and see how it takes it. About to do a WC too, not even going to turn the lights on, just a simple WC in the dark.
Winn's method basically is to cover the tank with blankets or something, shut off the lights, make it dark basically and cover the top. Dose metro like usual, I actually dosed a bit higher dose than recommended. I believe Winn also adds metro twice a day with one WC per day and feeds as normal as long as the fish is eating.

Great news Matt really happy this seems to be working.

So much for the streak. He's done it 2-3 times since doing the WC......don't understand.
-Matt
How big of a wc? I would just siphon out the poops. I forgot to mention that they tend to go crazy after wc so I would keep it at 10-20% max or just siphon out the poop if you can. The more water you change the worse they seem to get. I don't really understand this part myself so I learn to just siphon out the poop and top off the water.
That's the reason why now on my wild tank I only do a 20% daily because every time I do more than that, a few of the fish start whirling or spooking. Don't know why.
