Would like to know which type of floating plants are OK.I have a 150 gallon tank and want to add some live floating plants.
Thanks for any help.
duck weed is good too, whatever vlam said applies for this one as well. When i used to have it in the planted tank, the Discus liked the shade. But i couldn't get it to go in the bare bottom tanks.
Also, its little messy during water changes.

BTW..take a look at Najas Roraima. They can be both planted or float. Once they get going, it will fill you tank up quickly.
How about Najas Guadalupensis, guppy grass ? Has anyone used this.
I want something that will grow easy.
Moved it to the planted section, should get good response here
I would give duck weed a miss, it grows far too quick and becomes invasive.
Amazon frogbit (limnobium laevigatum) is one of the better floating plants ime, grows well and can take the temps easily. Has nice trailing tendrils too that look good and provide cover.

Comfortably numb.
Watersprite works well for me. No fancy lighting, and handles the heat well...Bill
Thanks for the info recieved so far.Could always use more.Does anyone have any pics of what watersprite or Amazon frogbit look like in the tank.
Never had watersprite but had frogbit in my 90 and 180. It looks really cool if you are looking from below. I had to get rid of mine when it covered 2/3 of my 6 foot tank. If you are looking to get into planted tank, I'll be more than happy to give you a few plant to try on my next clipping. If you have a school of cardinals, I think you will like the Najas Roraima
Some pics of my Watersprite...Tho still young plants, the roots will really develop a lot...Bill
I will probably take you up on the offer.I usually go to Philly on monday or tuesday. When is a good time to stop by.Day or evening.
I'll call you first.I'll drop my wife off at Cherry Hill Mall.
Thanks-
Bruce K.
Watersprite looks good.I will try some.
I am a fan of whatever plant member 3dees uses in his tank - it seems thicker and tougher than a lot of the other ones up top, which I think would make water changes a lot easier and also avoid any kind of leaf-dropping or anything like that.
Right now I moved things around to have a lot of my fake plants hanging in from the top and I like the look, but once I settle on a nice background I fully intend to try live plants again... and hope to avoid losing another battle to algae.
Here is my planted that is just starting to grow back from a massive trimming 2 weeks ago. I took out enough plants to start a new 150gal tank. Not the best picture you the idea of how much those Najas fill up on the left side.
Amazon frogbit, easy plant and grows super fast
I do what I must do, to do what I wish to do!
