How about cleaning house?

I have noticed under the member list there are a crap load of members on this forum. But when you get looking threw them most are people that joined 2002, 2003, and so on but don't even have one post on here. When you think about it that is a ton of user names someone else might want to use when they join. Just wondering do you ever go threw and clean house delete accounts that are almost 10 yrs old with no posts or activity?

We generally don't weed out accounts based on inactivity. Theres been many times when someone has been out of the hobby or away for one reason or another for years and they want to pick up where they left off.....once we delete an account its gone..Period....no way to get it back.

As for accounts where theres been no posts...we have in the past pruned things back as we saw necessary...Usually its at times of major upgrades or server moves.

My honest opinion....Its not something I really worry about in the big picture of running a web forum like this...With all the letter names and number combinations I really don't worry about a shortage of user names, and to tell you the truth, I would actually rather not have a member use the name used by someone else...It makes it confusing for us Dinosaurs that have been here from the beginning.... no need to recycle names... That said, if someone really is heart set on using a particular name thats been inactive forever... I'm open to taking a look at it and seeing if I can accomodate.

The story... well gee I dunno Jennie, If I told you it would take some of the mystery out of it....

But hey what the heck..I've posted it before..why not again.

years ago..I was a die hard homebrewer of beers and meads....still am to a degree....so a logical email name was brewmaster...though looking back I hardly was a master....and still am not... anyhow it had a nice ring... about the same time I went back to college for a degree in biology...and was as broke as you could be while I paid my way thru school....Dial up internet was big and it was free with many ISP providers (think Net Zero).....then they got wise...and put usage limitations on the "free service" No problem...I adapted...everytime I hit my limit...I changed my email addy and signed up again... It took me close to 15 user names in at least 3 ISP services to get my bachelors in Biology degree.... first in my family to ever get a 4yr college degree...still the only one even now.

so I guess I am a little attached to Brewmaster15....not exactly an amazing and memorable name...but definetly one that is significant to me.
