thanks Pat. it's a 48" hanging about 8" above the water. two 54w t8's with two rows of small led's down the middle. 78 bulbs in each row. they give the fish great color but they are pretty worthless for the plants. seems Catalina stopped making this model.

So you can not buy the T8's with the LED strips?

not that I know. Catalina does have a 48" fixture like mine but with more t8's and more led's, but it's pretty expensive. they list them as Greenlights on thier site.

I think your tank is beautiful and really like that you've managed to incorporate other fish species. I tried for a while but found it difficult to monitor the feeding. The smaller fish always seemed to grab everything before the larger discus could get their share. Have you had any problems with that? If so, how do you deal with it? Your discus look like my red spotted green discus from the Nanay River. I was recently looking at a series of pictures taken by a collector who brought back about 60 from the Nanay River. It was surprising the variance in color intensity, spotting, and shape, though all were taken in the same area.

no, I don't have any problems with the feeding. I keep my filters running so it spreads the food around. the tetras and festivums will take the food as it's falling and the discus will wait and feed off the sand. I probably overfeed a little. it takes the discus about an hour to eat all the food. blackworms are different. the discus go crazy for them, and eat as they are falling. the lemons just kind of stay out of thier way. I refuse to pay the prices for rsg's. the spots look nice, but not for 2 or 3 times the price. my greens are getting more spots as they age anyway.

Amazing looking tank, and lovely pictures.

It amazes me how understimated the lemon tetras are... people uses to go with rummynose and cardinals, while the lemons look incredible.
