I'm leaving for a six-day vacation and wondering what to do with babies. When I leave, the babies will be about seven days post-hatch. I plan on having an auto-feeder for the parents, but what do I do with the babies? I'd appreciate any comments on the below options...
Option A) Just let them be. Fry will eat slime off the parents to sustain themselves. Or could this do damage to the parents if there are a few hundred hungry fry eating?
Option B) Cull some of the babies so that fewer fry will be taking slime off the parents? That way I still get some babies but minimize damage to parents?
Option C) Cull all of the babies so that no damage will be done to the parents. Then they will eventually breed again.
I'm primarily worried about potential damage to the parents if there are many fry eating off their sides for their sole source of food...Is this a valid concern? Thanks for any advice!

Hi Eddie, thanks for the reply. So if I leave the fry with the parents, will the fry do damage to the parents by eating too much slime? Or is there another reason to cull that I'm not thinking about?
If you leave the fry to be with the parents and autofeed, its gonna pollute the water, you want to keep the tank water prestine while raising fry. Plus, you'll be thinking/worried about it the whole vacation. Just scrap them, have a good time and the pair will spawn again.
How about if I don't autofeed but leave the fry in there? Is it too much stress on the parents to be donating slime to fry and not eating themselves?
Ok thanks Eddie. And I appreciate your concern about how well I will enjoy my vacation
Kiss your babies goodbye.

D) find someone close to you and give them away ??
They are only going to be 10-11 days old (from free-swimming) when you return. You'll want to start a bbs culture immediately upon your return, but I say, go ahead and give it a try. Don't feed while you are away, and do a wc immediately before you leave and after you get back. People have posted before about coming home from holiday to find fry attached to the parents. There's always a bit of a risk, but my impression is you would like to save them.
I wouldn't take any chances. Might not be good for parents and one week no water changes is definitely not a good start for fry.
