    My dear Pat,

What you have been doing is on the right track. All the while, you have used metronidazole and trinidazole and these are effective in eliminating different strains of flagellates.

So, from the start of my input into this thread discussion, it seems we are already embarking on the likely cause. So don't be too worried with new inputs (though all are here to help you)....as they can be grouped up and treated with the same drugs you have been usng. Anyway, whether it is Trichomonas, Cryptobia, Tripanosoma, Bodomonas they are sub-group under the huge Flagellate family....like the hexamita and spironucleus.

The only difference is that the first set of flagellates may require extremely high dosage of metronidazole or other drugs like Trinidazole, Dimetridazole and Gabbrocol while the second set is most susceptible to Metronidazole treatment.

So Pat, the trigger of the gun is in your hand. So far, we have been doing well. The trial with trinidazole may not be effective due to many reasons.....dosage....like underdosed?..........Unable to dissolve .... like in metronidazole requires lukewarm water to dissolve before pouring in?.....Even having treated appropriately, still continue to feed freshwater aquatic animals like black worm so on, feeding them infested freshwater fishmeal and so forth?

Pat....please remember that too many random drug use and without the proper dosage can kill your discus in the long run. The liver may be destroyed before you know it. The choice is in your hand....in your finger I mean (^_^).

Take care and all the best!
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Like you I feel we are on the right course and at this stage intend to just observe. I really do not want to treat again. I feel two of the QT group have been over medicated as it is and one in particular. This particular one is eating but not behaving normally. It acts like it is in a bit of a daze or a bit drunk.

So for now the finger is in a neutral position. Thanks for checking in as you do.

    You are most welcome, Pat.

Take pace......don't be hasty and overly reactive.

Overly reactive and hasty moves will not only cost money, but also unnecessary worries and the lives of your discus.

    Take care,
    Andrew

Well guys, two weeks without a dart, whirl or any other abnormal behavior. To early to declare success?...finally...and everyone has regained an appetite and eating well.

I guess next step would be to add a discus from the 100 gallon and see if these guys can be part of a community tank again.

SOUNDS GOOD TO ME! About time. I definitely noticed the lack of activity on this thread and was wondering just today what that meant.

Thanks Keith and agreed Andrew on the celebration...way over do. One thing I have learned is to definitely have all new wilds under go a prophylactic treatment.

Have my fingers crossed for you. I don't know about others, but for me, every feeding and every day, I am anxious whether all of my fish are hungry and want to eat, or whether any fish is behaving abnormally... It became part of discus keeping for me. Something I never did while keeping other fish .... Best of luck.

Oh, I bet it is and no AC either I bet. No breeze dockside either. Wet the front of your shirt will help you remain cool especially with a fan blowing on you.

Thanks YSS, understand that feeling but starting to feel at ease with this group but hopefully no future surprises.

600 I really hope too that you're finally out of the woods and they're aren't anymore future surprises. It's been a long long road, I hope you've finally reached your destination...cured.
