Default What is it between Me and Crows

While feeding the horses this morning I heard a couple of angry crows behind the barn. The crows were diving one of my dogs and saw why. There was a baby crow hopping 100 feet away from the dog. I opened the gate and ran to catch the baby. It was just out of the nest and not quite flying. Cute stubby tail feathers reflecting it's young age.

I carried it back to the house with the dogs and carried it into the house. "Look what I found" I said to my distressed spouse and he promptly rolled his eyes into his head. I grabbed the phone and take the bird outside leaving the dogs to gaze at the bird through the window.

I walk to the barn and take it's picture.

I then carry it out to the pasture. The parents were both sitting on the fence looking quite sad. I place the crow on the ground it knew it was free and started to hop off. The parents saw their young'un and instantly started their angry cawing.

Here are the parents. The baby is under their tree.

This afternoon the parents and baby were out by the front pond. Good place with lots of cover for a young crow.

The parents were definitely sending you a message. Pretty funny, you certainly are a crow magnet.

    Cool!!

There was an older guy that I worked with that used to talk about one of the best pets he ever had was a crow. He caught it young like that and raised it up and it stayed there year around. It wasn't one of his very few pets either. It was one of many pets on his farm. He had alpacas, ducks, geese, chickens, horses, cows, goats, peacocks... He had a zoo it seemed. I always thought that was interesting that he said one of his best pets was a crow.

Scott, I raised a crow and it hung around for about six months or so. His story is in my homesteader section or do a search on Black Jack. Another crow I had was Midnight. His story is posted here too. They are cool pets in many ways and not so cool in others.
