Sorry guys, but this thread has been kidnapped for other purposes, most of which can be dealt through PMs. Can we restrict this thread to posting photos of wilds?

If you want 'photo's only, perhaps you should restart it in the 'Photo Gallery' section....Although rambling, I believe that the ongoing conversations fit into the 'economics' portion of the header...Hudson is a huge exporter of wild fish, afterall..Just my two pennyweights..

Here is a Alenquer I recently received. It has a center bar and is a big boy. What causes the center bar? Heckel cross?

Pat that fish is perfectly fine...it's actually 'reverse' bars you see and very common with the alenquer region. There are populations though with a black center bar, which should be as black as the first and ninth bar to be considered a legitimate center bar, and that would be commonly found in the 'solomon' strain from Trombeta river of the Alenquer region. I don't think it's a heckel cross as no heckels are found in the Alenquer area.

Thanks Mark, sometimes this fish will show the middle bar only, sort of like this without the other bars showing. Perhaps this fish just has a darker middle bar which is unique to it.

I see it better on this photo now...a few of my Cuipeaus do that too every so often. Looks pretty cool and different. But that center bar usually only shows up with other bars, true center bar will show prominently by itself without others. Maybe Heiko can jump in here as I know there are heckel hybrids found in wild, just not sure if it happens in alenquer region.

Mark, I will try to get a picture with it showing only the middle bar.
Here ya go.

The center bar fish has center bar like heckles. I don't think yours is a center bar discus.

On a side note, I noticed at dawn this morning that while dormant, the new Heckel crosses show reverse bars...pretty cool!...
