    Default Discus Rubbing Add Salt?

I noticed one of my Discus rubbed a few times on a plant but otherwise looks fine. No redness, using both gills, eating well, moving well and no labored or sped up breathing compared to other fish. I did have another fish (a week ago) that I eventually culled that came up with an gill infection or flukes but was removed immediately after I noticed his rubbing and red gills I culled him for other reasons though. I planned on doing a good water change tomorrow and thought about raising the temp to 86 and adding some aquarium salt.

Any more suggestions? I don't want to move him to quarantine tank if not neccessary and will be leaving town in a few days for the weekend.

    55 gallon community. 4 Discus, 9 cardinals, 4 rams and 3 cories
    temp: 84
Water Change: 50% water changes twice a week
    PH: 7.6
    Ammonia: unknown

Raise the temp, skip the salt for now, increase the amt. of water changed and the frequency, and watch for more fish flashing..Sounding like flukes to me....Gary

I would check your ammonia and nitrites first.

How long has the tank been running? Any new fish/plants added recently?

Tank running for about a month had a previously used sponge in filter also. My discus have been in for 8 days.

Yeah, definitely check your water parameters first as it may be the culprit for the flashing.

Well, after watching him last night for about 20 minutesa and again this morning 30 minutes he has not rubbed on anything and is eating very well. I thing it will be the Alpha of my group. I will just keep a close ey on him the next few days.
