Default My First Discus Tank - 4ft with Sump

Here's my my tank that I got $100! I have already made start on modify it. I have painted the back black. And I got a hole drilled in the tank for the drainage into my sump.

The sump is over engineered, because u want a bigger tank later, it's 3ft long with 5 sections.

More pictures later as more progress is made.

What's everyone think about my sump tank? Will this work well for discus fish?

It's fine, although no discus tank needs a 5 chambered sump IMO.

Your sump will work fine. There are a lot of chambers but that allows you to be creative with your media.

I'm loading the first chamber with coarse and fine sponge then the second will have bioballs and the third ceramic noodles. The fourth will not have anything in it except for a heater and finally in the last is the pump.

I agree that it a lot of space and I'm not going to use all of it, a waste I suppose... But it does allow me to be creative I guess.

Would you recommend anything else in one of the chambers?

I have used many different bio medias and had success with all of them. My next sump will have rolls of plastic "gutter guard", plastic army men and Seachem Matrix.

I have also used plastic pot scrubbers, Eheim media and lava rock rubble.
