I have double HOB's on at least 4 tanks, no problem....good luck, Gary
I have a Marineland 200 on my 55g and I just got a TopFin 60 as part of a package deal from Craigslist.
Would it be too much to run both on the 55? I'd like more filtration and to seed the filter so I can set up another tank quickly if needed.
Thanks

I have an emperor 400 and Ac110 on my 55... I think 1 of these would flow more then both of yours.... You'll be fine..
I run 2 x Magnum 350s on my 55 you should be fine.
ditto, two HOBs or one HOB and one cannister.

I did have two HOB filters but switched my smaller one out with a regualr sponge filter to reduce water movement and to add more O2 I thought it was kind of annoying my fish to have that flow coming in from both sides of tank.
I really don't know if I can buy in on the idea of too much current..Maybe wrongly focused current, but...I have three sumps that have between 950 gal to 1500 gal pumps on them, and none of my fish mind, nevermind the added air and HOB's, canisters, etc. that I run...My returns all point straight down basically, with fairly large ( 3/4 and 1") plumbing......

My discus always like going where the most current is ... so I would agree with Gary on the "too much current" idea. I also added a Powerhead a while back to aerate the tank and they seemed to go to the current.
Also, I'm slowing building up my fish room right now and I am trying to get rid of my canisters. So one of my tanks only has an AC110 running for a 55G. The Discus "hang out" where the filter is and usually leave the other side alone.
Someone in another thread mentioned it could be due to oxygen,.. but I have no hood, water is dropped an inch below return to create maximum surface agitation, so the tank should be well oxygenated.
