Beautiful fish and beautiful tank. Congrats on your success. I am new to Discus, so this is a shot of hope to me. Thanks for sharing.
Hi everyone,
I have joined this great community for more than a year now and 7 months ago in April I got my first discus (6 wild Cuipeuas) after a 15-year interruption with discus-keeping. I am therefore a newbie My return to the hobby has been full of ups and downs. Some of you might remember the thread about the mistake I made during a WC, when I added cold water and the fish got very sick. I lost one of the discus, and almost gave up, but folks here were very supportive and I kept going. There were too many fights in the tank when I ended up with 5 discus, so I got two more in July. So please allow me to introduce my friends:
The group:
Now let me present them individually, starting with the five discus of the original group that I got 7 months ago.
1. Big Royal
This is the fish in my Avatar and the one I introduced in the thread "Showcase your favorite wild". It is a terrific fish. However, in the last two months the stress bars in the back of the body are always very dark. I am not sure why. I think it is a male, since it joined fish 3 for a while cleaning the intake tube of my canister filter. There were never eggs, though.
2. Reddy
From the original group, this is the only Cuipeua that developed a red tone. It is now my favorite.
3. Yellowish
Another great looking fish, although she has developed a yellowish color rather than red. I assume it is a female because for months she has been cleaning the intake of my canister filter.
4. Greeny
This one looks very different from the others in the group. It has a greenish color and looks great when not been beaten around (it is at the bottom of the pecking hierarchy),
5. Brownish
This one did not color much, but has some nice estriations.
Now I present the two I got 4 months ago:
6. Big Star
This is a terrific Royal. The striations are simply amazing. Very happy with this one.
7. Skinny
This fish did not eat for months, with the exception of FBW. It was quite sick and it improved only after a heat treatment in my QT. Now it looks much better and I hope it will color up. It is also supposed to be a royal, but does not compare to fish #6.
Videos
Here is a video of the original group of 6 when I got them in April:
And here is a video I shot today with the new setup. As you can see, I decided to hang the driftwood branches from the top. It is much easier to clean the tank in this way.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Mauro, your crew and re-scape are awesome. I loved the way you introduced the group and then each fish individually. Big Star is a stunning fish and I bet much prettier in person. I can not help to think that this group will only get more beautiful with time.

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
Looking good, beautiful fish and setup!
Mark
Awesome looking set up! Good looking crew also
stunning fish! I'm a newbie, and very impressed with your setup
Thank you everyone for the kind compliments. I am glad you liked them.
Thanks, Pat. You are right, Big Star looks even better personally. The striation patterns are unbelievable. I also hope they will improve with time. They were supposed to develop a red tone, but I guess my mishandling and their health problems have delayed that.
Looking good so far, Mauro..good job!..Gary

Wow! I'd like to vote but man thats tuff ! Very nice group, I'll have to come back and give them another look latter and try to choose.
Thank you, Jarret. Yes, Big Royal is nice. I am planning to put him and Yellowish in a 25g tank with a beautiful cone from Barb and see if something happens. I will keep you all posted of any new development.
Yes, Kent, come back and vote. This poll is important. I will cull the fish with the worst performance (just kidding )
Mauro, maybe a poll allowing more than one choice. lol
