    Default Heckle behavior

This is my first experience with Heckels and I’m noticing these guys are pretty rough on each other compared with other Discus I’ve kept in the past. I just got them about two and a half weeks ago and they are constantly shimmying, shaking, lip locking and fairing typical cichlid behavior. I figure they are just sorting things out but it goes on every day and by now I would have expected a pecking order to be established. None of them get injured in any way it’s mostly display. I was wondering what everyone else’s experience has been with them in this regard. They are very social just rowdier than most other strains, I think it’s pretty cool to be honest they are defiantly not the shrinking violets some Discus can be.

Great site by the way I’ve been reading everything for days.

The Heckels I kept for 4 years were extremely peaceful with each other. There may have been some "headbutting" in the group, but nothing as rowdy as lip locking. I have found them to be much more sociable to each other and less fiesty than the other 2 discus species

My domestics lip lock. It's pretty funny.
