This particular fish I almost got rid of. The shape is a bit off with the cichlid hump on the forehead and he started to develope what I thought at the time was pepper (wish I had taken a picture then). I decided to keep it thinking it may be a male and as time progressed this pepper started to develope into what I can only best describe as an underlying pattern. Has anybody ever seen something like this?

I'm loving these crosses! Keep this up, i'm curious to see where you go with this. I've got a spawn a month old today from an albino cobalt/CB Pigeon. I saw a post that you had put up in the breeding section on one of your crosses and figured, what the heck. I'll try this and see what happens. How big do they have to get before you start to show peppering? Again, please keep posting these crosses, it's nice to see that there can be a good outcome from the PB/albino crosses.

Also, to clarify, this particular spawn was about 135 strong. The vast majority of the offspring were peppered to varing degress. Many were just plain butt ugly. What you are seeing is the select few that were worthy of keeping (well in my opinion anyways). None of the peppered fish showed any signs of having the blue pepper of the mercury, just your normal, black, PB pepper. So in many ways this experiment was a failure, with the small exception that I did get a few nice fish. It will be interesting to see the F2's this small group I saved produce. The one thing I can say about these guys (the whole 135+ group) is that they were a very healthy/hardy lot.

Very interesting results. I've seen a similar underlying pattern in the new "Spotted Pigeon" strain through Kenny/Forrest...
They have brilliant bright red spots on the top layer and a peachy orange pattern beneath it.

    Like this:

Of course it's very difficult to capture the true color with a camera

Keep up the good work Rick!!!

A I wait for some of the other offspring from this cross to come of age here is a picture of two early bloomers with mom, which have all been courting each other. I believe the one that looks a bit like a white buttterfly is a male and the red melon offspring a female.
