That's probably the one parasite I haven't dealt with over the years. (Thank goodness!) Absolutely disgusting! Must feel great to the fish to expel those things.

Once a host fails to provide the proper nutrition, a tapeworm will leave it. That is why healthy looking discus can be plagued by them. In your case, they were juveniles. They would have continued to eat like pigs and continued to look healthy as long as you fed them a lot but would not grow accordingly. It is a reason many juvies do not grow and people end up with 4" fish that are a year old even though they raised them properly.
