not bad on the peppering.. considering the black substrate..
one of my 1.0 fish was from LFS>. he was the largest for awhile.. until my DFW BREEDER 2.0 and Hans 1.0 fish came in.. they have all passed him up
looking forward to the 6 month update
One of my 2 from my lfs that I got 6 weeks ago...this is the one that chases the rest around and always looks for food. Pics from day 1 (January 7) and last night.

Interesting pb. Are you feeding colour enhancers? He is bright.

It is a lfs from stendker..my biggest concern was stunting and that it was so skinny. Especially when my Hans fish came in and I saw how thick they were. The black substrate is being removed at each waterchange. Lol didnt take me long to ditch the plants. Tom, the color at the back is a reflection of a lamp, it does that. I dont feed color enhancers.

Im going to make a little suggestion, I really think you need to take out about 80% of that substrate. when growing out young discus less is definitely more when it comes to substrate and decorations. Im only telling you this because in the past I have had issues myself with substrate and illness in my young fish. you will find that it will be much easier to keep clean and the fish will grow much better in my suggested conditions just my opinion and suggestion.................Josie
good job Jen but I would wait on the pool sand for a while you will find that its pretty hard to keep clean and the sand can hold bad bacteria if you put to much just try to go bare bottom for a while and see how that goes........Josie
Ok..you think my bolivian rams and bristlenose plecos will be okay with a bb tank? I was planning on just putting a very thin layer of sand in there.
I have a couple pieces of driftwood. I'm ready to ditch the rocks...I was feeding AFTER waterchange last night and a whole cube of fdbw they were tug-of-warring over fell between two rocks and they couldnt get to it. I thought I'd just get it out next time but the thought of it rotting in there drove me bananas so I hooked it out but managed to get the sleeve of my pajama top wet of course! Stupid rocks!

Get a 5 gallon bucket like from Home Depot. Fill with existing tank water. Take the discus and other fish out and put in the bucket with a airstone. Remove all the substrate. If you want a thin layer of sand, add it at this time, not necessary for the ram or BN. 100% water change with declor added or aged water. Put the fish back in.

I've also used a ice chest when it was a planted tank and was going to take more than an hour or two.
