I use Whisper filter bags. They are cheap and easy to rinse. They do an excellent job for wiping inside the tank.
My favorite is paper towels. The general recommendation to prevent cross contaminatioon is "a single use towel". Its good insurance. I used to have sponges, but keeping them disinfected became a lot of extra work. I also used to use the polyester fill that some use as a polishing medium for their filters. Doesn't scratch the glass. I used to buy it by the bag in the sewing section. It's super cheap.
A little heat and bleach are not enough to kill mycobacterium. Alcohol is better, but nothing is 100%. Soooo, that's why I use paper towels.

I just use a handled scrubber, like in this link, though I have the long handle version.

I also have a large mag-float, which I really like.

Combine your Mag-Float with a paper towel.

Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
I use sponges meant for aquarium use. Each tank has their own sponge and I bleach them everyonce in a while then let them air dry.
I have found scotch bright and kitchen sponges all feel like they have been treated with something and often give off soapy residue so I would never chance it with either of those.
If you use hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) - to "wash" your hands - it turns into (H2O) pretty quickly because it oxidizes so it is totally harmless and safe for your fishes.

Maybe little plecos would do the job
I've used apple snails. Workers at the LFS say they die at discus temp, but after looking at SD I had to laugh. So I've had a few in my different tanks and they grow to monstrous sizes. I personally love having them in my tanks. Easy to keep the population down, as I just feed the egg sacks to my loaches. The snails also seem to provide entertainment for the discus, I've caught them playing soccer with them a few times.

I use the non stick pan sponges you can buy at Walmart. We have two colors pink for dishes. Blue for tanks fiancé was getting pissed bc I was stealing the scrubbies lol
