I personally use Rena with flawless use for the last 8 years with 3 filters. I (and friend) also have cascades and they are a great bang for your buck and do a decent job

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having issues with their Ehiem Pro 3! I've had it break 4 times in the past two and a half years. I hate it, but at least Ehiem just throws parts out as you say something.

so far so good with my 2217. coming up on the 1 year mark. so far perfect. i disconnect and clean about every three weeks-month. i am just aware to not man handle it and its fine. dead quiet and easy. i hope it lasts. fingers crossed. i also love the simple hob ac's. good luck with the cascade.
HI Darrell, that looks like a great setup. Using an external pump like that looks like a smart idea. If I ever go with a larger tank I'll definitely consider this.

i have 3 eheims on an 80 gal, the 2213 is about 15 yrs old the 2215 is about 8 yrs old, both are for bio and a 2226 thats about 12 yrs old for mech. it gets cleaned every 2 weeks. in my opinion thats value. my vote for filter recommendation, is ehiem, i think they last forever. think back over the years how much you've spent on filters? over the past 15 yrs ive only spent 3 hundy.
