Default Michigan breeder back in the hobby

Hi all, I have been out of Discus for a few years as all of you know sometimes "life gets in the way"

Anyway, getting back in to the hobby, acquiring fish from a few here on the board (I will report on those as i receive them) as well as a few other sources.

I am waiting for some fish with much anticipation from a distributor I have yet to deal with. So far Rod from*Waialeale Discus in Hawaii has been very communicative, he personally answered the phone the first time I called, and he let me know the best times to get a hold of him.
Anyway I ordered a few of the uncommon type and some that have been around awhile and will post pictures and a review when I receive them next week. Hopefully Rod will come through for me as the pictures he sent me were awesome.*

I am looking forward to seeing the pictures and hear what you have to say. I had email communication with Rod about some of his discus but haven't ordered from him yet. I was interested in some face spotted eruptions and he was out at the time we talked. He sent me pictures of some of the other fish he had and they looked great. With airport to airport his shipping cost is about the same as anyone else here. When I asked who he imported from he told me he got his discus from a lot of smaller hatcheries that specialized in certain strains.

Love his fish. Especially the Solid Yellow, Spotted Fireball and the Gold Spotted Ruby. Just curious, he charges $85. to deliver to the US no matter where. And his fish arrive at your closest airport.Hope he gives you one huge discount for shipping or passing it on along with your shipping will make some really $$ discus. Speaking of banded jewelfish, they are
awfully aggressive and "bite" a lot. Even with other cichlids. What could you mix them with?????

You mix them with each other. And then only in a big tank.

I talked with Rod about why he didn't come to the forum or be a sponsor so more people would know about his fish. His response was that he just didn't have time for Forums but he did add that he thought NADA was great.

    Thanks guys!
I just thought I would try Rod out to see the quality of his fish, shipping from Hawaii not really any different from any other part of the country, still get them the next day. He sent me some more pictures not on the web site and I liked what I had seen. Plus I haven’t seen a whole lot of other’s that have ordered from him and I thought I would be the “guinea pig” and report back here.
HaHa! The Banded Jewelfish are very vicious even with themselves, I just had a few given to me when I was a kid and had several successful spawns as they tore apart a 90gallon tank so I have been stuck on them since.
I am looking to breed and sell but as I am just getting started I am sure it will be a long while before that happens. It is nice to see some Michigander’s posting here, than I don’t feel so alone.
The Discus will be here Thursday night, hopefully will have pictures by next week.
